The Contestant#15
Before you dive into this post, have you read ‘When The Cat’s Away‘?
Adriana winced as the blinding light of the cameras went off. It was like staring into the sun, but rather than being one solid bright light, the cameras flashed on then off, then on again.
“Aid!” Shouted a familiar voice.
Looking to her right, Adriana spotted Hailey, a long-time client, and even longer friend, and her wife Natalie.
“Hailey! Nat!” Adriana shouted.
Turning around, Adriana placed her hand on Ali’s chest and leaned into him.
“I’ll be right back.” She said, just loud enough to be heard over the music.
Ali gave a little nod, and after giving his arm a light squeeze, Adriana turned around and made her way over to Hailey.
“Is that one of them?” Hailey asked the second Adriana was within arm’s reach.
“Hailey, behave.” Natalie said teasingly as she pulled Adriana into a hug.
Hailey scoffed.
“I’m always on my best behavior.” Hailey said with a gasp.
Adriana laughed as she pulled Hailey in for a hug.
“Bitch you know that’s a fucking lie.” Adriana said as she pulled back to look at the blonde.
Hailey let out a loud and dramatic gasp, her hand flying to her chest as she pretended to be offended.
“You know you can really be a bitch sometimes.” Said the blonde as she looked at Adriana.
“What can I say, you sure know how to bring it out of me.” Adriana said, batting her eyelashes.
“So who’s your friend?” Natalie said, looking over at Ali.
Adriana turned around just in time to watch Zac, a retired photographer, grab a hold of Ali’s arm as he walked pass.
She could practically hear the older man shouting ‘young man, come over here and let me talk to you for a second!’
Zac was always looking to do business, and Adriana couldn’t blame him.
“Ali, we had a little fashion show back at the house and he won.” Adriana said.
“Oh I bet he did.” Natalie said, causing Adriana and Hailey to turn and look at her.
“What?” Natalie asked, looking from her wife to Adriana, then back to her wife again.
“Jesus Nat, you give bisexuals a bad name.” Hailey said, shaking her head.
“Now hold on, Nat’s whorish tendencies and her bisexuality have nothing to do with one another.” Adriana said, defending her friend.
Natalie hummed in agreement as she nodded her head.
“Yes! What she said! I can be a whore and a bisexual at the same time! I don’t represent the whole bisexual community.” Said Natalie.
Hailey laughed as she shook her head.
Opening her mouth, she was about to say something when Natalie interrupted.
“Shh, he’s making his way over here!” Natalie said excitedly.
Adriana laughed as Hailey huffed and shook her head.
The smell of Calvin Klein cologne wafted through the air, and a moment later Adriana felt a warm hand on the small of her back.
“Sorry, I went to look for the bathroom and as I was walking back out some guy came up to me and started trying to convince me to sign to his agency.” Ali said.
Adriana allowed Ali to slip an arm around her waist as Natalie stared at him as if he were a strip of steak.
“Ali, this is my friend Hailey, and her wife Natalie.” She said, causing Natalie to gasp, and Hailey to chuckle.
“Bitch! Are we not friends as well?” Natalie asked, deeply offended.
“No, not right now we aren’t.” Adriana said.
Ali sipped on his scotch as the women made conversation with him.
Then, as Natalie was getting into the story of how she and her wife met, a woman with long wavy red hair, who looked a lot like Jessica Rabbit, caught Ali’s attention.
Luckily for him, at the very same moment that he spotted her, his glass just so happened to be running dry.
“I’m gonna go get another drink.” Ali said as he turned to Adriana.
“Okay.” She said.
Without so much as a second glance towards Adriana, Ali untangled himself from her and began making his way over to the bar.
Ali sank down onto the last open tool at the bar, and just his luck, that tool just so happen to be right beside the woman he was hoping to speak with.
Meanwhile, back at the house, Corey made their way downstairs with a drunk Jess and Brock following behind them.
“Hey Cornelius! Wait, can I call you Cornelius?” Brock asked, leaning entirely too close to Corey’s ear.
“You can call me whatever the hell you’d like, so long as you back the hell up.” Corey said, pushing the man back a bit.
“Ahh, my bad dude. But anyways, I was thinking, how about you make us some grill cheese sandwiches, you know, because you’re a chef and all.” He said, swaying back and forth like a flag blowing in the wind.
Corey paused for a moment to look at him, the bacon and grilled cheese sandwiches that he and Jess had requested was the whole reason they’d came downstairs in the first place.
“You know what? That’s a great idea!” Corey said sarcastically.
Brock’s face lit up like the Fourth of July as he hurried around the kitchen island and took a seat on one of the stools.
A few minutes later, Corey slid two grilled cheese sandwiches onto Jess and Brock’s plates.
“Careful, they’re hot.” Corey reminded them as Brock reached for his sandwich.
“What?! How come they get sandwiches?! I want a sandwich too!” Edwin said, looking back and forth between Corey and the other two contestants.
Since they hadn’t put any of the dishes away yet, Corey placed the pan back on the stove and headed to the fridge.
“Alright, who wants bacon on their sandwich?” Corey asked, causing Edwin, Rachel, and a few other contestants, who were now in the kitchen, hands to shoot up into the air.
The driver pulled up to the house and after thanking him, Adriana and Ali hopped out of the car.
“I had a great night tonight.” Ali said as they made their way to the front door.
Adriana was curious about what made his night so great. For the entire night, Adriana saw Ali for a total of two hours, and that included the ride there and the ride back.
At one point, Jake, one of Adriana’s clients, informed her that he saw Ali walking out of a supply closet with one of the waitresses; but Adriana said nothing.
“I’m glad you did.” Adriana said as the car came to a stop.
After thanking the driver, the pair hopped out of the SUV and began making their way up to the door. When they arrived at the top of the staircase, Adriana reached for the door knob when Ali stopped her.
“Wait! Do I not get a kiss?” He asked, grinning like a child.
Was he fucking serious? Not only had she not seen him for the majority of the night, he snuck off to the supply closet with someone else.
As Adriana watched Ali make stupid puppy dog eyes at her, she felt like laughing in his face. But he continued to stand there, staring at her, just waiting for an answer.
“I don’t kiss on the first date.” She said.
Then, before he could even part his lips to say anything else, she turned to the door, opened it, and slipped into the house.
