The Contestant#25
Wait, before you start this story, have you read ‘Chugging Along‘
“Why’s there fucking maple syrup in the fucking bathroom?” Jess shouted.
Corey frowned, their eyebrows bunching together as they looked over at Brock before looking back at the bathroom door.
“Maple what?” Corey asked.
The door of the bathroom opened, and out walked Jess, and sure enough, clutched in her hand was a bottle of maple syrup.
“It works great with gel.” Alex said, walking into the bedroom.
Brock and Jess stared at him like he lost his mind, while Corey looked down at the bottle.
“So you just walk around smelling like maple syrup?” Corey asked, looking up at him.
“Nah, I only put a little bit in the gel. Makes it last so much longer.” Alex said, causing Brock to snicker.
Alex, Corey, and Jess all turned to look at him.
“What?” He said, looking back and forth between the trio.
“You’re a literal fucking child.” Jess said.
Shaking her head, she turned on her heels, heading back into the bathroom to finish getting ready for the day.
Corey made their way down the stairs with the other three contestants following behind them. As they stepped onto the last step, the doorbell sounded, causing the foursome to all turn and look at one another.
Now that there were only eight of them left, Adriana and the contestants moved out of the large mansion, and into a more standard house. The light blue house was still massive, with three floors, nine bedrooms, and four bathrooms, but now it felt more like an actual house instead of a museum; or at least that’s how it felt to Corey.
“Noses!” Alex said, prompting Brock and Jess to nearly poke their eyes out as they rushed to touch their noses.
Corey stared at the trio, blinking several times.
“What are we, five?” They asked, staring at the other three.
“You have to get the door.” Brock said, pointing at the front door just as the doorbell went off again.
“Un-fucking-real.” Corey laughed.
Shaking their head, Corey continued down the staircase and headed for the front door to check the peephole.
“Sophie!” Corey said, as the front door of the house swung wide open.
A loud scream ripped it’s way through the silence of the house, causing Brock, Jess, and Alex to shuffle to the right just in time to see a flash of white hair.
A body crashed into Corey’s as thin arms wrapped around their midsection.
“Bambino! It’s my little Vinny!” Cried a muffled voice.
“Wait, I didn’t know we could have visitors?” Brock said, turning to look at Jess and Alex.
“We can’t, but if I had to guess, this is probably another mutual friend of Corey and Adriana’s.” Jess said.
“I wanna believe them when they say they didn’t know each other before this, but it’s really fucking hard when Adriana’s friend’s keep showing up and they already know Corey.” Alex said.
“Gotdamnit! Soph have you seen my-”
A short, bald, round man walked into the house and came to a dead stop, right in the middle of the doorway.
“Vinson?” Said the man, his face scrunching up as he looked at Corey.
“Giovanni!” Corey said cheerfully, their arms wide open as they moved towards the older man.
Giovanni’s arm jutted out, causing Corey to come to a stop.
“Is this the one she’s been gushing about?” Giovanni asked, looking over at Sophia
Sophia smiled a wide grin, causing Giovanni to groan.
“Wait, you know Cornelius!” Sophia asked.
“Unfortunately.” He said, turning his attention back to Corey.
“Ah G, don’t tell me you’re still mad about that poker game.” Corey said with a laugh.
Giovanni shoved Corey, causing them to let out another laugh as they stumbled backwards.
“Cheater! All you fucking Cambio’s are fucking cheaters.” Giovanni said, shaking a finger in Corey’s face.
“God, I really hope your granddaughter isn’t as sore of a loser as you.” Corey said.
And as if summoned, the front door opened and in walked Noah, with Adriana trailing behind him.
“Nonna! I thought you were coming tomorrow! I was supposed to pick you up from the airport!” Noah said as he set the shopping bags down.
“You know this one, never been one for waiting.” Sophia said as she moved in to hug her grandson.
“I’m pretty sure impatience plagues all the Romano men.” Adriana said, nodding her head towards Noah.
“Oh! You’re one to fucking talk!” Noah scoffed as Adriana pushed passed him and move into hug their grandmother.
“A Cambio Adriana! A fucking Cambio got you gushing like some middle school girl who’s crushing for the first time?!” Giovanni said, waving a hand in Corey’s general direction.
“Wait, she’s talking to her grandparents about Corey? You think she talks about us?” Brock asked.
“Do I think she talks about me? Of course, but you…” Jess trailed off, turning to look Brock up and down.
“Probably not.” She said, earning a scoff from him.
“Papa, Corey’s last name is Smiley.” Adriana said, confused at how her grandfather knew Corey.
“Uh uh, no! Corey’s got Cambio blood!” Giovanni said, wagging his finger at Corey.
“Papa!” Adrianna said, trying to reasong with him.
“It was more than thirty years ago! Let it go!” Corey said.
“No! That’s bullshit! Your good for nothing grandfather and I play online poker every Saturday! And you know this!” Giovanni said.
Corey held up their hands.
“I don’t know anything. I just know once he gets to screaming and swearing chances are he’s playing poker.” Corey said.
“’Playing poker’. That fucker doesn’t play fucking poker! All he ever does is cheat!” Giovanni said with a huff.
“Hey Noah, you ever wonder why you didn’t get a graduation check from your grandparents like your sister did?” Corey said, turning to Noah.
“You shut your mouth Smiley!” Giovani shouted.
“Wait, how do you know that?” Adriana, Noah, and Sophia all said at the same time.
“Cause it went to a cherry red 69 Dodge Challenger.” Corey said with a laugh.
“Giovani! You gambled away his college fund?!” Sophia shouted, whipping around to face her husband.
“Damnit Smiley!” Giovani yelled in Italian.
