The Contestant#21
Wait, wait, wait! Before you start reading this, have you read ‘I Think She’s Got A Favorite‘
“So who’s your second favorite?” Claudette, Adriana’s cousin, asked with a wide grin as she laid across the bottom half of Adriana’s bed and propped her head up with her hand.
“What?” Adriana asked as she placed the cap back on her lipstick and turned around to look at the other woman.
“Ahh come on, don’t play dumb with me. We all know Corey’s your favorite, so who’s your second favorite?” Claudette asked.
Adriana rolled her eyes, turning back around to face the mirror.
“Am I wrong?” Claudette asked as she looked at Adriana through the mirror.
“It’s far too early to be having a favorite.” Adriana said, avoiding her cousin’s gaze.
“God, I love what a horrible liar you are.” Claudette laughed.
“So where are we and your ‘not favorite’ contestant going to lunch.” Claudette asked, air quoting the last half of her question.
“I don’t know, the dates are kind of built into this whole thing.” Adriana said, gesturing around her as she leaned into the mirror.
“So you didn’t save the fanciest date for your favorite contestant, got it.” Claudette said with a nod.
“Shut up and let’s go.” Adriana said, dropping her lipstick into her handbag and rising up from her vanity
Claudette laughed as she allowed Adriana to pull her up from the bed and make her way to the door.
“You still didn’t answer my question.” Claudette said as they made their way down the hall.
As the women made their way to the end of the hall that led to Adriana’s bedroom, the pair ran into Jess.
“Tell Snakey Smiley I want a rematch.” Jess said as she looked at Adriana.
“Why can’t you tell them? Aren’t you two roommates?” Adriana said with a laugh.
“I would, but it could get ugly if I did that.” She said, causing Adriana to laugh again.
”Alright, I’ll be sure to pass the message along.” Adriana said.
After saying goodbye to Jess, Adriana and Claudette continued down the hall.
“What was that about?” Claudette asked once they were far enough away.
“We had a series of challenges where the winner got a week’s worth of back-to-back dates. For most of the competition Corey and Jess were neck and neck, and originally I was going to just go on alternating dates with them, but Corey talked Jess into a tie breaker that ended up being a cooking competition. ” Adriana said.
“Wait, isn’t Corey a Michelin Star chef?” Claudette said, earning a laugh and a nod from Adriana.
“Yup, and worst of all Jess chose the competition. Corey tried to talk her out of it, but she wouldn’t listen.” Adriana said, shaking her head.
Claudette let out a loud laugh and shook her head.
“That’s cold, you should have arranged another competition!” Claudette said.
“What? No, Jess is a big girl. She was warned, she thought she could take Corey on, so she did.” Said Adriana as she and Claudette approach the stairs.
“This answers my question by the way.” Claudette said.
“Shut up.” Adriana said, bumping her shoulder with her cousin’s as they made their way down the stairs.
Stepping off the last step, the women made their way into the kitchen to find Ian, Claudette’s husband, and Corey, sitting at the kitchen island.
Folded over at the waist, Ian leaned over the kitchen island, his face buried in his arms as his back quickly rose up and down.
It was only when he popped up from the countertop, laughter bubbling up from his chest and spilling out of his mouth that Adriana and Claudette realized what was going on.
“Oh my God, you got the ol’ ‘Italian sausage discount’!” Ian said, howling as more laughter overtook him.
“Fuck you Ian! I still can’t eat sausages to this day!” Corey said as they shook their head.
“Got damn, no wonder nonna put up with his crazy ass for all those years.” Ian said, causing Corey to gag.
“You’re fucking gross!” Corey shouted.
More laughter poured out of Ian as Corey turned around and took note of the women.
“Oh, hey! Ready?” Corey asked as they held out a hand.
Adriana nodded as she placed her hand in Corey’s.
The level of comfort Adriana felt with Corey was scary at times. Between their midnight conversations, and the group and one on one dates, Adriana felt herself falling harder and harder for Corey.
Claudette looked down at her cousin and Corey’s interlocked fingers before looking back up at Adriana.
Claudette smiled a big cheesy grin and if looks could kill, Ian would have been a widower.
“Ready.” Adriana said, turning her attention from her cousin over to Corey.
And so, with Claudette and Ian trailing behind them, Corey and Adriana made their way towards the living room. After saying goodbye to a couple of the other contestants, the foursome made their way out the front door and towards the waiting limo.
“So how do you two know each other?” Claudette asked as the limo driver shut the back door.
“Corey and I are cousins, you know this.” Ian said, looking at his wife.
“What, no I never knew that!” Claudette said shaking her head.
“Bambina, Corey was at our wedding! They were one of my grooms people.” Ian said.
Claudette turned her attention from her husband to Corey, squinting as she attempted to remember them.
When she and Ian first arrived at the mansion, she remembered thinking that Corey looked familiar, but with the Cambio-Smiley family being as large as it was, and her and Ian attending so many family gatherings, sometimes Claudette struggled to put names to faces.
But as she stared for a moment longer, the memory came floating back to her.
“Oh yeah! You gave my grandma a lap dance!” She said, causing Corey to begin laughing.
“Wait what?” Ian and Adriana said at the same time.
Corey laughed some more.
“Ahh good times” They said, more laughter spilling out of them.
“Wait, you gave grandma Leroy a lap dance?” Adriana said, turning to look at Corey.
Corey shook their head as they waved their hands out in front of them.
“Don’t listen to her, I didn’t give grandma Leroy anything!” Corey said.
“What?! This is how you wanna start your relationship with my dear cousin? By lying to her? Did you forget that I have a video?” Claudette said as she pulled out her phone.
“Claudette, I swear!” Corey shouted, as they reached across the limo.
Ian grabbed a hold of Corey, restraining them as Claudette’s fingers flew over her screen.
“I can’t believe I forgot about this!” Claudette laughed.
Tapping at her phone for a moment longer, Claudette searched feverishly for the video.
Then, after one final tap, Ginuwine’s Pony began to play.
“Claudette no! Turn that off right now!” Corey shouted.
Claudette turned her phone around and held it out for Adriana to take.
Staring down at the phone, Adriana watched as a large circle formed around the dance floor as Claudette and Adriana’s grandmother sat in a chair in the middle of the dance floor.
“Wait! Adriana, I need you to know that this was a different time! I was a young dumb kid back then!” Corey said.
Adriana stared down at the phone, watching as Corey swung their hips seductively as the crowd roared with cheers.
The one time, the one time Adriana couldn’t make it to a major family event, and this happens.
Closer and closer Corey came, sliding around the dance floor with moves that would put Magic Mike to shame.
After landing a backflip right into Grandma Leroy’s lap, Corey gave her a lap dance she was sure to never forget.
It was evident by the way she fanned herself, as the crowd continued to roar around them, even long after the dance was over, that Corey gave Grandma Leroy the lap dance of a lifetime.
“The one time! The one fucking time that I can’t make it to a family event, I miss everything!” Adriana said, causing Claudette to laugh as she took her phone back.
Corey shook their head, causing Adriana to laugh as she patted their chest.
“I fucking hate you, both of you.” Corey said, wagging a finger back and forth between Claudette and Ian as the couple died of laughter.
