The Contestant#20
Stop right there! Before you start reading this, have you read ‘Papa Vinny’
“What the hell do you mean you ‘don’t go grocery shopping’?” Adriana asked in disbelief.
Corey laughed.
“Exactly what you just heard.” They said as they leaned back on the beach towel.
Adriana looked at Corey like they’d lost their mind.
“So what, like you get Instacart or something?” She asked.
A look of horror took over Corey’s face, causing Adriana to laugh.
“Instacart? Like trusting some rando to pick out my fruits and veggies? No, no, no! Absolutely not!” Corey said, shaking their head.
Adriana laughed yet again, this time even harder.
“Then how the hell do you do it?” She asked.
“I get everything from the restaurant. Every week when mom does the shopping for the restaurant, I tack my shit onto the list.” Corey said.
“And your parents are just fine with that?” Adriana asked in disbelief.
“I’d assume so. I’ve been doing it for like a decade and they never say anything. I’ve only ever had to actually go shopping for specific things that I want or need.” Corey said.
“Ahh, so you’re a thief then, got it!” Adriana said, nodding her head.
Corey laughed as they knocked their shoulder against hers.
“Oh please, like you don’t pull the former model card to get free stuff.” They said.
Adriana tucked her bottom lip between her teeth, telling Corey all they needed to know.
“Exactly!” Corey said with a laugh, pointing an accusatory finger at her.
Adriana laughed as she shook her head and grabbed a hold of Corey’s finger.
“No, that’s different! Brands send those things, I don’t ask for them. And I only ever get PR packages like every once and a blue moon.” Adriana said.
Corey gasped, sucking in all the air around them.
“’Every once and a blue moon?!’ Bullshit! Chloe, who’s an absolute nobody compared to you, has an entire room in her house dedicated to PR packages. I bet you and the mailman are like that.” Corey said, holding up their crossed fingers.
Adriana laughed, the level of accuracy of Corey’s statement was almost scary, but not because of the amount of packages she was getting.
“No, while I will admit, I actually am on a first name bases with my postal person, it’s only because of the amount of packages I’m sending, not receiving.” She said.
Corey shook their head.
“No, see now your completely changing the topic, we’re not talking about PR, we’re talking about leveraging our names for free shit.” Corey said.
“I don’t think nepotism and notability are the same thing Corey.” Adriana said.
Corey gasped; sitting up they dramatically grasped at their chest, as if they’d been shot with an arrow before flopping down onto the sand.
“Wow! A nepo baby! You really called me a nepo baby!” Corey said, staring up at the cloudless sky.
“No! Don’t even! You’re the one who said ‘my last names basically a magic carpet’!” Adriana said, doing her best impression of Corey.
“Really! Is that what I really sound like? All high pitched and nerdy?” Corey said with a laugh.
“Yeah, pretty much.” Adriana said, causing Corey to tackle her.
Adriana fell back onto her towel, allowing Corey to straddle her waist and begin tickling her.
“Cornelius no! You know I don’t like to be tickled!” She yelled.
Though it had only been about a week and a half, Corey already knew all the places to poke and tickle, causing Adriana to yelp as she thrashed around beneath them.
“Corey I swear to God! You’re gonna be the next contestant packing up and heading home!” Adriana yelled.
In the past three weeks, only three people had gone home. Dustin, a man Corey saw all of once, and Holly, a dancer from LA had both gone home after the pair were caught hooking up in the shower, and Melody, a music producer, also from LA, had excused herself from the competition a few days prior after being homesick for quite some time.
“Please, who’s gonna make your midnight snack?” Corey said, as they slid their hand into hers.
Brown mixed with green as Adriana stared into their eyes.
“Alex, he’s pretty handy in the kitchen.” She whispered.
Corey cocked an eyebrow.
“Alex? Really? So all us trans people are just interchangeable to you.” Corey said.
Adriana shook her head.
“All trans people? No. But you and all the other cute people that cook well are.” She said with a laugh.
Corey gasped, but before they could say anything, Adriana lifted her head and captured Corey’s lips with her own.
Meanwhile, back at the house, Alex, Edwin, Ali, Jess, and a few other contestants stood in the window, watching Corey and Adriana wrestle in the sand.
“You know, despite having not gotten a one-on-one date yet, Corey’s spent the most alone time with Adriana thus far.” Alex said, staring out at the pair.
“I gotta give it to them, Corey’s got game.” Jess said, causing Ali to suck his teeth.
“No the fuck they do not. Corey’s just a fucking kiss ass. Why do you think they haven’t had a one-on-one yet?” Ali said.
“Probably cause Adriana signed something that said she can’t fuck any of us.” Jedd said just before taking a pull from his beer.
Ali turned around to face the ginger haired man.
“Please, Corey’s sliding into the friend zone as we speak. She never has real one on one time with them, unless it’s like this were we can all see them, and that kiss we shared last night wasn’t like any of the kisses she gives you chumps.” Ali said.
Jess rolled her eyes, Ali was full of it; every night for the past week, if Adriana wasn’t on a date with another contestant, or working, then she was in the kitchen, or the hammock with Corey.
Of course, like Ali, and the rest of the contestants, Jess was a little jealous, and she probably be just as jealous as Ali if it hadn’t been for the handful of private moments she and Adriana had shared over the past few days.
A couple days after the fashion show, Jess had won a competition that landed her a one-on-one date, and unlike Ali’s date, Jess’s ended with a steamy make out session that lasted the whole thirty-minute limo ride home. But of course, she wasn’t going to go around blabbering about that.
“I don’t know man, I think Corey’s pretty high on her list of favs.” Brock said, watching as Adriana pulled Corey on top of her.
It was clear to Brock, and all the others that Corey was her number one, and Ali was in deep denial about it. But as for Brock, it wasn’t over until Adriana sent him packing; so until then, Brock would continue to give Corey a run for their money.
