The Contestant#12
Have you read ‘A New Normal’ yet?
Corey and the rest of the contestants were settling into the house quite nicely. Upon arriving at the house, everyone claimed their rooms, and Corey ended up rooming with Jess, Edwin, and someone named Alex.
Jess, Alex, and Edwin seemed cool enough, but on their second night in the mansion, Edwin got a little weird.
The contestants had been hanging out in the backyard when Adriana suggested taking a dip in the hot tub. So Alex, along with a few of the other contestants, headed back inside to change into their bathing suits.
As Alex stepped out of the house in his swim trunks, Corey, along with a few of the others notice Edwin’s odd and overly animated reaction to seeing Alex.
At first Corey and the others figured Edwin’s dramatic reaction was in response to the bright color of the shorts. But even after Alex climbed into the water, and his swim trunks were no longer visible, Edwin continued to stare.
“Yo you good man?” Jay, a personal trainer from California, said as he looked at Edwin.
Edwin continued to stare at Alex, and the longer he did, the more creeped out Corey became.
To Corey, the two lines from Alex’s top surgery seemed to be the reason for Edwin’s staring, but Corey wasn’t entirely sure, so they weren’t going to say anything about it.
“I don’t know man, girl on girl, and dudes who are in to other dudes, I can live with that. But all this gender stuff, chicks pretending to be dudes, dudes pretending to be chicks, I don’t know man, it’s just fucking weird.” Edwin said with a face of disgust.
Since Corey opted for keyhole top surgery, instead of double incision, Corey had more of a ‘traditional looking chest’. Unless you knew them, or you were up close whenever they took off their shirt, you’d never even know that they had top surgery.
Having had top surgery, and being trans wasn’t something Corey hid. In fact, if you were to Google their name, articles about them being a trans chef, along with their activism and charitable contributions within the LGBT community, would be some of the first few articles you’d find about them. But when it came to everyday interactions, especially with people they didn’t know, unless it came up in conversation, Corey didn’t really talk much about it.
Jay’s face bunched up as if he’d smelt something foul.
“’Dudes pretending to be chicks?’ Dog, what the hell are you talking about?” Jay asked, looking at Edwin as if he’d grown a second head.
“I’m just saying, God created-”
“Alright, alright. Do we really need to be going into all of this?” Racheal asked as she looked at Edwin.
Edwin held up his hands, almost as if Racheal were pointing a gun at him.
“You know what, let’s just drop it, cause clearly you can’t say anything about those people.” Edwin said, muttering that last part under his breath.
A few eyebrows raised but Corey and Jay simultaneously shook their heads, almost as if to say drop it.
Like a knife coming in to cut the tension in the room, Adriana, along with the rest of the contestants stepped out of the house, towels in hands.
“Who’s ready to get into the hot tub?” She asked, causing the contestants to begin cheering.
Leading the way over to the hot tub, Adriana fired it up.
Corey sat in the hot tub with Rachel, Adriana, and a few other contestants.
As they sat there, soaking in the hot, but not too hot water, Corey watched as Rachel’s gaze wondered over to Edwin and a few other guys who were swimming around in the pool.
“Rachel, you okay?” Adriana asked, taking notice of Rachel’s distracted state.
For a moment, Rachel didn’t say anything, her face simply remained cold and illegible as she stared over at Edwin.
“Rachel.” Corey called out a little forcefully, and this time she finally turned around to find Adriana and the rest of the contestants staring back at her.
“You alright?” Adriana asked as she looked at the raven-haired woman.
“Sorry, I just can’t stop thinking about that asshole.” Rachel said.
It was only after the words had left her mouth and her eyes drifted back over to Edwin, that Rachel finally realize how this must’ve looked.
“God, I’m sorry. Look at me! First full day here and I’m already focusing on the wrong things.” She said, turning to look back at Adriana.
“Wait, who’s an asshole?” Adriana asked, her brows bunching together in confusion as she looked over to the pool.
Before anyone could say anything, Thomas, a welder from New Jersey, spoke up.
“Edwin, blonde hair, purple shorts. He was being pretty transphobic by the pool earlier.” Thomas said.
Adriana focused her attention on the man in question, watching as he laughed and talked with two other contestants.
Seriously? It was only the second day, and drama was already starting up? That wasn’t something Adriana wanted to hear.
